Terms
Effective October 1, 2026
These terms cover the Stowit app and the paid Attic storage. By using either one, you agree to them. How we handle your data is covered in the privacy policy.
Who you are dealing with
Stowit is provided by Stowit.dev ("we"). You can reach us at todd@stowit.dev.
The app
The app is free to install and use. Parts of it are open source under MIT or Apache-2.0, and those licences cover those parts. Everything else is ours, and you may use it but not resell it or reverse-engineer it to build a competing service.
The app is built never to delete your data: a file's space is freed only after a verified copy of it exists somewhere else. You are still responsible for your own computer, your drives and your own backups. A drive you plug in can fail, and a computer can be lost.
The Attic
Plans and price. The Attic has three plans. Each includes a fixed amount of storage, measured on what we actually store after encryption:
- Basic: 40 GB, $6 a month or $49 a year.
- Pro: 100 GB, $15 a month or $119 a year.
- The Kraken: 1,000 GB, $99 a month or $1,079 a year.
Stripe bills you at the start of each month or year, and prices may include applicable tax. There is no charge per gigabyte. If an upload would take you past your plan's storage, we refuse that upload and tell you; nothing you have already stored is touched, and you can move to a bigger plan at any time. We will email you at least 30 days before any price change affects you.
Getting files back is free. We never charge you to download your own files.
Your key, your responsibility. Your files are encrypted with a key that stays on your computer. We cannot read your files, and we cannot recover them if you lose the key. Keep it somewhere safe.
What you may store. Only content you have the right to store. You may not use the Attic for anything illegal, to harm others, or to disrupt the service. We may suspend an account that does. Because we cannot read what you store, we act on reports and on the law, not by inspecting your files.
Cancelling, and what happens to your files
You can cancel at any time, and billing stops at the end of the current month. We do not refund partial months.
If you cancel or stop paying, you can no longer upload, but you can still download everything you stored for 90 days, free. We will email you before that period ends. After it ends, we delete your stored files. A missed payment never locks you out of your own files during that period.

Availability
We work to keep the Attic available and your files intact, and every upload is read back and checked before the app frees the copy on your computer. We cannot promise the service will never be interrupted. If we ever shut the Attic down, we will give you at least 90 days' notice to download your files.
No warranty, and limits on liability
Stowit is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be limited.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will update the date above and, if you pay for the Attic, email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you keep using Stowit after that, you accept the new terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, except where your local consumer law says otherwise.
